2016-12-20
In its December 2016 issue, Asian Legal Business China ("ALB") officially released its 2016 Top 15 IP Lawyers ranking. Han Kun Partner Rong (Estella) Chen was included in the ranking. Ms. Chen was recognized as one of ALB's "2015 Top 15 Female Lawyers", and this is the second time she has received accolades from ALB for her outstanding professional achievements.
With nearly two decades of legal practice experience and a solid educational background in science, Estella Chen has profound knowledge and practical experiences with respect to IP and company law. Specializing in IP, litigation and dispute resolution, mergers and acquisitions ("M&A"), and corporate and foreign investment, Chen is especially known for her expertise in business operations, IP transactions and rights protection with regard to Internet companies, technology businesses and cultural and media enterprises. Her achievements include winning a trademark infringement and unfair competition case for Tuniu.com, a Chinese travel site; helping Momo Inc., a US-listed top-3 social networking app in China, to persuade a case plaintiff to withdraw a core trademark infringement lawsuit worth more than RMB ten million; providing IP legal services for UBER China in its merger with Didi Chuxing; and, reviewing and revising IP transaction documents and technology licensing and business cooperation agreements for Megvii (developer of the facial recognition system "Face++") in a cooperation project with Ant Financial Services Group. Chen attributes her success to efficiency, focus and engagement. Efficiency: replying to clients within 24 hours without delay. Focus: focusing on doing one thing at a time with perseverance; getting up-to-date with new industry rules and updates; keeping abreast of business and market developments; being meticulous and dedicated with flexibility. Engagement: communicating with clients timely and thinking and acting in clients' shoes when developing solutions, rather than stopping short of getting problems solved or being too focused on theory.
Intellectual property ("IP") is the foundation for entrepreneurship and innovation. With the progress of the times and the development of technologies, IP has been elevated to a status never seen before where new challenges are also presenting themselves. Against this focus on the IP legal market, Asian Legal Business ("ALB") selected a total of 15 top IP lawyers through analyses based law firm recommendations, lawyer achievements, practice specializations, new client wins, client interviews and market reputation.
