On July 10, 2026, the founding conference of the National Security Law Research Society of the China Law Society was held in Beijing. Attendees included relevant leaders from the Central Political and Legal Affairs Commission, the Ministry of State Security, the China Law Society, and other units, along with all members of the National Security Law Research Society. The conference reviewed and approved the Charter of the National Security Law Research Society of the China Law Society and elected the first council and leadership team of the society. Han Kun lawyer Aaron Gu, a member of the cross-border disputes team from the firm, was elected as an individual council member.
The China Law Society is a people's organization led by the Communist Party of China, serving as a national mass organization and academic body for the legal and law communities, and an integral part of the political and legal front. The National Security Law Research Society is a direct second-level academic branch of the China Law Society, operating under its unified leadership. The council members of the society are primarily composed of renowned scholars from leading domestic law schools, key personnel from judicial institutions across the country, and outstanding representatives from the legal practice sector (such as lawyers and in-house counsel).

Mr. Aaron Gu graduated from Nanjing University, Duke University in the United States, and the Washington University School of Law in St. Louis, earning LL.B., LL.M., and Juris Doctor degrees. Mr. Gu is a member of the PRC Bar and a member of the New York State Bar. His practice focuses on foreign-related and cross-border complex commercial disputes, particularly international arbitration. He has represented clients in commercial disputes involving amounts exceeding billions of U.S. dollars and achieved favorable outcomes at multiple leading domestic and international arbitration institutions, including the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Court of Arbitration, the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC), and the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC). Additionally, Mr. Gu possesses extensive experience handling compliance investigations by government authorities both domestically and internationally. He excels in comprehensive case strategy planning, aligning with clients' commercial and litigation objectives, and coordinating legal resources across multiple jurisdictions to manage complex cross-border compliance and government investigation matters.
Mr. Gu is a ranked lawyer by Chambers and Partners and The Legal 500. He also serves as an arbitrator at several prominent domestic arbitration institutions, including the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC), the China Maritime Arbitration Commission (CMAC), and the Shanghai International Arbitration Center (SHIAC). His partnership registration procedures are currently underway.
