Work experience

Alex Chan is a Hong Kong solicitor and an associate at Han Kun Law Offices LLP, where he specializes in complex international commercial arbitration and cross-border dispute resolution.  Alex regularly advises and defends clients in high-stakes, bet-the-company proceedings and regulatory investigations, acting as counsel and advocate for multinational conglomerates, financial institutions, asset managers, and listed companies.
Alex has extensive experience managing disputes across key jurisdictions: Hong Kong, the Chinese mainland, the United States, England and Wales, Singapore, the British Virgin Islands, and the Cayman Islands.  Many of these disputes arise out of investment agreements, sale and purchase contracts, financing arrangements, shareholders' agreements, joint ventures, and mergers and acquisitions.  Alex brings deep sectoral knowledge to his practice, with particular expertise in financial services, private equity, asset management, life sciences, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, technology, e-commerce, and international trade.
Before joining Han Kun, Alex spent over five years at Paul Hastings, where he qualified as a solicitor and practiced as an associate in the firm's litigation department, following two years as a trainee solicitor.  Alex began his legal career first as a litigation paralegal in Palo Alto, California, focusing on federal intellectual property litigation and enforcement, prior to undertaking his legal studies in Hong Kong.
Alex is an accredited tribunal secretary of the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC), a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb), and an associate of the Hong Kong Institute of Arbitrators (HKIArb).
