Xiaopeng Lai specializes in handling antitrust filings for cross-border mergers and acquisitions, antitrust investigations, antitrust litigation, and antitrust compliance.
Xiaopeng serves clients across various industries, including air transportation, shipping, automotive, semiconductor, internet, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, consumer electronics, finance and food.  He has extensive expertise with merger filings, and one of his cases was awarded the prestigious Merger Control Matter of the Year - Asia-Pacific, Middle East and Africa at the GCR Awards 2023.  Xiaopeng has a wealth of experience in the intersection of antitrust and intellectual property, advising clients on antitrust issues in standard essential patent pool licensing, antitrust and unfair competition issues in patent and copyright litigation, antitrust compliance review of patent licensing agreements, and antitrust issues related to technical collaborations.  Xiaopeng was a longtime contributor to Thomson Reuters' Practical Law Competition, providing the latest antitrust developments in China.
Prior to joining the firm, Xiaopeng worked for many years in the antitrust and competition law team at Freshfields and in the patent team at Liu, Shen & Associates.

Xiaopeng graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a Juris Doctor degree.  In law school, he was a Harno Scholar and a recipient of the CALI Excellence for the Future Award in Antitrust Law and in International Trade Policy.  Prior to his legal career, he obtained a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Brown University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering from St. Louis University.
