Work experience

Mr. Ren's practice covers data compliance, antitrust/competition law, international sanctions and export controls, and outbound compliance for Chinese enterprises.  He also closely follows emerging regulatory developments in areas such as artificial intelligence, autonomous driving, and surveying and geographic information.  Mr. Ren's clients span a wide range of industries, including artificial intelligence, intelligent driving, new energy, automotive, internet platforms, data services, healthcare, advanced manufacturing, and new consumer sectors.
In the area of data compliance, Mr. Ren advises on China cybersecurity and data protection compliance matters in connection with multiple US and Hong Kong IPO projects, conducts data compliance due diligence in China and overseas jurisdictions for private equity investments and M&A transactions, and assists clients with internal data compliance assessments, remediation implementation, and compliance program development.  Mr. Ren also has an in-depth understanding of data protection regulations in major jurisdictions including the United States, the European Union, the United Kingdom, and Singapore.
In the area of antitrust/competition law, Mr. Ren's experience encompasses global regulatory filing analysis, antitrust and national security review filings in China and overseas jurisdictions, monitoring trustee engagements for conditionally approved transactions, antitrust investigation defense, and compliance program development. He has also assisted a globally renowned internet and smart hardware company in multiple antitrust litigations in China, including cases heard by the Supreme People's Court.
In the area of international sanctions and export controls, Mr. Ren provides sanctions and export control compliance services for multiple Hong Kong IPO projects, advises companies on an ongoing basis regarding US economic sanctions and export control matters, and counsels clients on China's technology export restrictions, export controls, and related countermeasures.
In the area of outbound investment compliance for Chinese enterprises, Mr. Ren advises companies on a broad range of cutting-edge compliance issues, including US cross-border investment security reviews (Reverse CFIUS regime), restrictions on cross-border data transfers to China, and regulatory restrictions relating to connected vehicles and the photovoltaic industry.

Educational background

Mr. Ren received an LL.B. degree in 2023 from Peking University.
